How to choose where to put carpet and hard floors in your home
Hard floors — easy to clean but lack that warmth and comfort. Carpet — oh so nice underfoot, but not so great for those spills and accidents. So where should I put them in my house?
Here are a few things to think about when deciding where to put different types of flooring in your house:
How much foot traffic is the area going to have?
Areas with high foot traffic are more prone to getting dirty and stained. Hard floors are our choice for areas that get a lot of attention. It’s much easier to mop up a spill than try to get it out of the carpet. Some carpets also tend to crack and wear down over time where there is constant movement.
Is it for your own home or a rental?
Most of the time, owners of rental properties want a product that will be low maintenance, budget-friendly, and last the test of time. A product that we recommend that ticks all these boxes is the 2.5 mm vinyl plank: easy to clean, hardy, and cost-effective.
Comfort and Insulation
If you’re after flooring that is luxurious underfoot and gives that extra warmth in our cold Tasmanian winters, then the carpet is your product of choice. Carpet is always popular in bedrooms and living rooms where we like to relax and feel comfortable.
Budget-conscious
There are varying price points for hard flooring and carpet; ultimately, you need to decide how much you want to spend on your project. Due to the extended time of laying hard floors compared to carpet, they usually become a more expensive option.
